It's Memorial Day Weekend! I don't know about you guys, but our spring-that-wasn't-spring really made Memoial Day and the official start of summer really sneak up on me. This week you'll find the local Memorial Day Parades and the season opening of great attractions--just visit the calendar of things to do with kids and families (a great place to import events right into your own Google calendar) or scroll down to see them all.
Want to help someone win an iPad mini while spreading the word about your favorite, go-to resource for local moms (I hope!)? Forward this email to friend and any new subscriber is entered to win! If you aren't yet subscribed, this is the best time. The iPad mini sweepstakes is for any new subscriber from May 16th to June 15th.
This week's featured camp is Kettledrum Farm Summer Horseback Riding Camp in Southbury, CT! My own daughter attended Kettledrum Summer Camp last year and came home excited (and tired!) everyday telling me about the games she played and what she learned about riding and horses. The owner, Maggie, is good with kids and actually runs her own camp (unlike other camps that leave the 12 year olds in charge!). Visit Kettledrum online and in the Macaroni Kid Summer Camp Guide!

-- Brown Tufts Montessori is offering Macaroni Kid readers $100 off when you register for preschool or kindergarten in the fall. The Montessori technique is very respectful of children and their development. Children experience learning and emotional growth in the prepared, Montessori environment and it was one of the best experiences for my kids.

It's Memorial Day...Let the Summer Begin!
Macaroni Celebrates
It's finally here! It's the beginning of the summer season even though summer doesn't begin for several weeks. It looks like the weather will cooperate too! When I was growing up, I knew it was Memorial Day because my best friend Edyce's father, Mr. Barie would start the day very early, mind you, by blaring The Battle Hymn of the Republic, Taps, the Marine Hymn and once in a while the Ballad of the Green Berets! This was our cue to get our bikes and decorate ...
