Ladies Night Out

Get Out for a Grown Up Evening

Words cannot express how glad I am to be home. I feel as though my life was put on hold for an entire week.

It was fulfilling to have the children home for an entire week (even with the occasional skirmish). While it was nice, I am glad that the kids are back in school and I have a chance to, finally, have some time to myself.

Something that is so very important, and more and more studies are coming out talking about the health benefits as well, is ...

Taking Refuge

Editor's Note

What a crazy week. I went to Tech Fest last weekend and enjoyed seeing my kids with heat vision, a demonstration of telescope making, some awesome DIY robotics, and a cool one-person car. My kids even got to see a jet engine up close and ride a Segway. Even the nine year-old could figure it out right away.

Of course, we ended up going home in, amazingly enough, a few inches of snow. So many people couldn't make it up the hills to even go home on Saturday afternoon ...

A Way to Keep the Family Meal Positive

Family Time

People talk about the importance of sharing family dinners. Eating together as a family is a great way to keep lines of communication open--as long as there is conversation.

We keep the atmosphere positive and communicative at our dinner table by sharing our "three good things". We pick three things that we accomplished or that made us happy in the past 24 hours and we take turns sharing them at the dinner table.

My rules are that it has to be positive ("I didn't have to clean the yard ...

Daylight Savings on Sunday Night, November 6th

Clocks "fall back" one hour this weekend

Ah! An extra hour of sleep. At least it would be if my children relied more on alarm clocks than their own internal clock.

Alas, I will have some adjustments with my littlest.

Though I will begin adjusting his bedtime so he stays up just a little later, about 15 minutes, each night.

This is also the time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and also your carbon monoxide detectors.

Especially your carbon monoxide detectors if you are using a generator near your home while waiting for power ...
