Editor's Note
- The weather: This weekend is going to be full of clouds and Saturday will probably be rainy. It's amazing how infrequently I've had to say that. We really did have a great winter for getting out.
- This weekend is Read Across America, which starts on March 2nd, Dr. Seuss's birthday. Macaroni Kid has a great article full of fun foods to enjoy with your child in honor of Dr. Seuss. Visit Kumon of Southbury in the same plaza as the Southford Dunkin Donuts (intersection of 67 at 188) for a free Literacy event and open house on Saturday with free activities for the kids. Build-a-Bear workshop in Danbury is having free reading for kids (and their stuffed animals!) Monday through Wednesday from 2 to 3 pm and when you go you get a 50% off coupon for Haagan Daz. There are more Build-a-Bear events in the calendar, too.
- March is time for enjoying the delicious maple syrup that was made in February. On Sunday, Flanders Nature Center is hosting a pancake breakfast at the Woodbury Emergency Services building. For just $7 for adults, $5 for kids 5-11, or FREE for under 5, and you get all you can eat pancakes with sausages and real maple syrup. Macaroni Kid will be there so stop by to say hello!
- I am already looking forward to St. Patrick's day (where I will be celebrating maple syrup again with Flanders Nature Center) and parades. Here is a list of some Connecticut St. Patrick's Day Parades for 2012. The Knights of Columbus and Waterbury's Ancient Order of Hibernians have the earliest listed parade this Saturday starting in front of Washington Park House on Sylvan Ave at 12:00 pm.
- Thank you to everyone who has already voted for the best birthday party locations in our area!
It is a really quick survey and all the Macaroni Moms will love knowing your thoughts. The top five businesses in our survey will win free advertising for a month* on Macaroni Kid and a "Macaroni Mom Favorite" badge.
Head straight to Facebook to pick your favorite birthday party location or use this non-Facebook poll for the Best Birthday Party places.
- We have a new giveaway ending March 15th at 7 pm: Sundae Spa in Waterbury. I had a opportunity to check out this salon for the under-18s in Waterbury this past weekend. Check out our review of Sundae Spa and read the article for instructions on how to enter the giveaway.
- Check this weekend's calendar of events, where there are many, many more activities listed.
- Friday picks: Learn about early childhood development in Woodbury, free story time at Barnes and Noble in Waterbury. Our giveaway winner, Jennifer D.'s family, will be checking out Monster Jam at Webster Bank.
- Saturday picks: Literacy activities at Kumon of Southbury, the free Day of Dance at New Milford hospital, and the Family Day exploring Ancient Greece at the Bellarmine Museum of Art all for free! Don't forget to start celebrating "everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day" by checking the local Waterbury St. Patrick's Day 2012 parade.
- Sunday picks: Enjoy pancakes with Flander's Nature Center then take your girls and their favorite dolls for a special pampering and boutique shopping experience at Sundae Spa.
- Especially for teens: Night 5 of Rumble at the Room--see local bands compete, Ladies self-defense for 15+, a free program presented by the Oxford PTO, a free reed quintet concert at the Pequot Library in Southport, the Irish Curse for mature teens ready to laugh at a typical male ego issue (mature content).
- Macaroni Kid has a big list of area restaurants that offer free and cheap kids' meal deals.
Please email me at [email protected] if there is any place or event that I've missed!
