Editor's Note

- I had my turn with Jury Duty at the Waterbury, CT Municipal Building. For anyone who might have to serve, apparently you can bring a laptop and even a wi-fi hotspot. I started writing this on my phone at the courthouse. Yes, really! While my battery lasted, anyway. This is only my second time serving and I appreciate being part of the process. Of course it is an inconvenience (my husband is took time off in order to be home with the kids).

-  I am so excited to announce a special Mother's Day Gift just for Womanologie: receive a $25 Lord & Taylor gift card with each Womanologie ticket purchased on-line for $15. Yes--it's like we're paying you $10 to come to a great Women's Night Out at Capellaro's Grove on June 8th, benefitting the EverWonder Children's Museum to be built in Newtown, CT. There will be raffle prizes, free massage chairs, free brow waxing, a free photo booth with props for your new Facebook photo, passed hors d'oeuvres, and even get paid more when you sell back your gold to Party of Gold.

- It only comes once a year. Free Comic Book Day is on Saturday. Head to your local comic book store for special events and a free comic. Saturday is also Cinco de Mayo. You and your child/ren can make a maraca kid craft.

- Welcome summer! Make your own bubbles, and enjoy a Macaroni Daisy cupcake (so cute).

- On Saturday evening, watch for a particularly bright full moon. The moon will be at its closest to Earth making for a moon that is 16% brighter and slightly larger in the sky. When the full moon coincides with the moon being close to Earth, it is called a "supermoon". Thanks to my husband, Aaron Turner, who teaches astronomy to children, for the heads up. He's also offering a 20% discount to Macaroni Kid readers who want to sign up for a class (that's only $3.25 an hour! Try getting a tutor for that amount of money).

- Giveaways! "I never win anything," was Karyn J.'s response when she found out she one the Ringling Brothers tickets. Stephanie G. is looking forward to "a fun Mother's Day treat!". Diana H. will be enjoying Caroline's Enchanted Garden, compliments of Macaroni Kid.

- I will be adding more events to the calendar. The newsletter always has a selection, but you can find all of the kid and family events in the calendar.

Free Comic Book Day May 5, 2012

Stop by a local store and choose a free comic book from a large selection

Comics and kids go together like peanut butter and jelly. The highly visual style appeals to kids young and old, boy or girl. In fact, comic books are an artform of their own with famous writers and artists who bring a unique style to each story.

Modern comics are not your mother's comic books, nor are they ours. There are still the characters we all know and love, like Superman and Spiderman. There are also comics appropriate for younger kids as well as comics for teens and, yes, adults ...

Oh yes, it is that time of the year. The kids are dying to get outside and play. The sun is shining and what is more fun than bubbles? Oh how kids love blowing bubbles.
