ASAP Presents World Renowned Pilobolus Dance Theater


[January 5, 2016, Washington Depot, CT]  The world famous dance company Pilobolus comes to Pomperaug High School Auditorium in Southbury on Friday, February 19th and Saturday, February 20th presented by the After School Art Program (ASAP).  A snow date has been selected for Sunday, February 21st.


Known for its electrifying mix of humor, intelligence, physical invention, and raw athleticism, Pilobolus is a Connecticut treasure. The companyis an internationally acclaimed arts organization renowned for its unique, diverse collaborations that break the barriers between creative disciplines. Pilobolus has created and toured over 120 pieces of repertory and claims OVER 1 BILLION VIEWERS + OVER 64 COUNTRIES + OVER 100 TV SHOWS + OVER 5000 PERFORMANCES. Honors include a Scripps Award in 2000, Dance Magazine Award in 2010, a TED Fellowship, and 2012 Grammy® Award Nomination. In 2015, Pilobolus was named one of the Dance Heritage Coalition’s “Irreplaceable Dance Treasures”.


Audience members will see several works of the latest repertory from Pilobolus’s most inventive and groundbreaking choreographic work. The performance will include a piece from ASAP’s Multigenerational Community Dance Project and students from Newtown, Southbury and Washington.


Under the direction of Pilobolus dancers ASAP participants used the same method as the professional company to create choreography, including improvisation, collaboration, and taking risks.

ASAP is a nonprofit arts organization based in Washington, CT that was established in 1999.
Its mission is to foster creative, hands-on learning through the arts and believes that when we honor children’s imagination, invite them to create, encourage them to take risks,and trust their resourcefulness, they will become the empowered and resilient adults the worldreally needs. ASAP provides over one hundred workshops, programs during the school day, summer programs, and events in the visual, literary, performing, and culinary arts for pre-school through adult in more than a dozen towns throughout the state. Last year ASAP provided programs for 10,000 students.
