Gabi Takacs is an internationally award-winning ballroom dancing champion. Winner of the New England Best Teacher Award, she also has teaching credits that include coaching couples for competition, coaching an awarding winning youth team, coaching Harvard and Yale's ballroom dancing team.

Ms. Takacs also coaches the Oxford High School ballroom dance team. In fact, you can experience a lesson with Ms. Takacs at the Halloween Dance Gala and Show fundraiser for Oxford High School's Ballroom Dancing Team along with dressing up and having fun.

My own children took ballroom dancing for a number of years. They enjoyed ballroom dancing more than any other sport they've ever taken. My oldest daughter still has great posture because of those lessons. She became great friends with the other kids in the class and gained a sense of accomplishment from learning a variety of dance moves. We never had a day where they complained about going.

We all know how important it is for children to keep active. Many of us have discovered that organized physical activity is a great way to keep kids moving. Some kids take to every sport really well. Other kids do not enjoy typical sports. Ballroom dancing is a physical activity that can be demanding and may be just right for the kid who hasn't discovered their personal movement passion yet.

My daughter had so much fun dancing, and the music was so fun, that my husband and I even took up ballroom dancing lessons. It is a great activity to do as a couple. Between laughing at our various mistakes as we went along and then the warm glow of having mastered a new step, it was a great experience as a married couple.

There was a study done a few years ago that showed that couples who learned something new together had a more positive opinion of their relationship and each other. All of those hormones released during a challenge are the hormones for attraction. Ballroom dancing is perfect!
