Bird Seed Ornaments

An Easy, Fun, Nature Craft

By Jody Lynn Chin December 1, 2011

This is super easy, actually easier than I thought it would be!

Ingredients:

  • One packet Knox Gelatin (found in the baking isle in the grocery store it comes in a box with 4 packets)
  • ¾ cup Bird Seed
  • ¼ cup Water
  • Ribbon or string that you want to use to hang the ornament
  • Cookie cutters or muffin tins
Instructions:
  1. Just pour the package of Knox Gelatin in a small pan mix in the water
  2. Heat on low until the gelatin is dissolved
  3. Mix in the bird seed.  If it is runny just put in a little more seed.
  4. Push the mixture into a cookie cutter (using the cookie cutter as a mold) until the mixture is about half way up the sides
  5. Press the string or ribbon into the seed mixture in the cookie cutter
  6. Fill the cookie cutter all the way
  7. Pat it down firmly
  8. Wait for the gelatin to set.
I did put mine in the refrigerator for a couple of hours and then just pressed them out.

You can give as gifts or just use to keep the kids busy.
