Sufgan Yot Chanukah Recipe

Sufgan Yot (pronounced Soft-gaan-Yoat)

Munchkin type donuts American cousins to this Israeli Chanukah treat

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 pint heavy cream
  • **oil for frying
  • powdered sugar
  • cinnamon

Instructions 

  1. Pour oil (about 3 inches deep) into a medium size pot.
  2. Heat at a low setting DO NOT LET IT BOIL
  3. While heating, beat eggs in a large bowl. Stir in flour, sugar and cream.
  4. Mix together well.
  5. Pour a few large spoonfuls of batter into the oil one at a time (be careful of spattering oil)
  6. When they float to the surface, turn them over with a long handled spoon.
  7. Takes about 6 minutes.
  8. Scoop out of oil with a slotted spoon and cool on paper towel.
  9. Sprinkle with powdered sugar or cinnamon or sugar/cinnamon mixture
