Fishing Season Starts on Saturday

By Jennifer Paterra and Kim McNeill April 19, 2012
Grab a rod and reel and join other anglers for opening day of the fishing season.  Introduce your child to the joy of fishing.

To properly enjoy this day, you'll need a few items:  Rod, reel, fishing line, tacklebox with sinkers, hooks, etc.  The great news is that many department stores or sporting good stores have packages already setup for a relatively low cost. You'll also need some bait...you can buy this at many area convenience stores or you can go out and dig up some night crawlers from your own yard.

Aside from rod and reel, you'll also want to bring some other items when you start your adventure.

  • Hat
  • First Aid Kit
  • Cold Drinks
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug Repellent

Once you have all that, head to your favorite stream and give it a try!  Showing your children what the outdoors has to offer could inspire a lifelong love of fishing.
