Brighton Beach Memoirs written by Neil Simon Performed by the Newtown Players in Newtown, CT
Friday, July 20 through Saturday, July 21
This coming-of-age comedy focuses on Eugene Jerome (Evan Thompson), a Jewish teenager growing up in 1937 Brooklyn, experiences puberty, sexual awakening and a search of identity as he deals with his family.
The LA Times said BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS “embraces hilarity and family solidarity as counter to global uncertainty and economic duress.”
Part of what makes this play so popular is its depiction of the crowded daily life of closely packed relatives who keep getting under one another’s feet and on each other’s nerves while still maintaining a close, loving bond.
