Session 2: Painting from the Landscape 

During the August session of Outdoor Observations, students will create landscape sketches from the beautiful view of Walnut Hill Park in back of the NBMAA. Students will transfer these observational drawings to canvas in order to create an acrylic painting. The session will cover the basics of mixing acrylic paint to create colors natural to the environment as well as various methods of paint application. Leave this session knowing what it takes to create a visually interesting work from the sights of your own backyard.

For more info: Youth Drawing 101 is for young artists looking to hone their drawing skills while learning about the history and practice of art. Each month will focus on a different topic ranging from Pop Art to architectural space to portraiture to abstraction. Classes will often take place in the galleries with students working directly from the NBMAA’s collection to strengthen critical thinking and observational skills. All skill levels are welcome.
